2nd grade students of Ege University Atatürk Health Services Vocational School Audiometry Department organized a “Information and Awareness Raising on Hearing Health” stand within the scope of the Social Responsibility Project due to the World Disability Day.

Rector of Ege University who visited the stand opened. Dr. Necdet Budak participated in the hearing test conducted by getting information from the authorities here. Chatting with the citizens at the booth where the public showed great interest. Dr. Budak said, “As a university, we mobilize all our knowledge for a world without barriers. In this context, all units of our university carry out important social responsibility projects to raise awareness. Here, we aim to provide our citizens with a hearing test and take precautions early in case of any discomfort. I call on all our citizens to ‘Listen to this voice’. Universities are responsible for a society without disabilities and we are aware of this. In this direction, we are working for an unimpeded world, not every day. I would like to thank our employees who contributed to the event. ”

The activity held in the entrance corridor of Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital Main Polyclinic; The Audiometry Program was carried out with the support of Ege University Faculty of Medicine Dean’s Office, Faculty of Medicine Hospital Chief Physician, Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Ege University Hearing Society (EGİT), in cooperation and execution of the Disabled Aegean Unit and Special Education Application and Research Center. Within the scope of the event, brochures to raise awareness of visitors to the booth area were distributed, an informative video demonstration was watched and a hearing screening test was performed.

The event was implemented as a Social Responsibility Project, and was managed by the Disabled Aegean Unit Coordinator and Special Education Application and Research Center Manager Assoc. Dr. Pelin Piştav Akmeşe and Atatürk Health Services Vocational School Lect. See. Gülce Kirazlı did it.
“Nearly 3 million individuals in our country have hearing loss problems”

Stating that they aimed to raise awareness in the event, Assoc. Dr. Piştav Akmeşe said, “Nearly 3 million individuals in our country have hearing loss problems. Early diagnosis is extremely important in congenital and visible hearing loss. It is important to inform the society about hearing health and raise awareness about hearing loss in order to detect hearing loss in the early period and to consult an otolaryngologist. After early intervention in hearing loss, the quality of life of children and adults is positively affected by device use. ” Piştav Akmeşe mentioned that an average of 300 thousand to 2,600 children are born with a hearing loss every year.
“The target is at least 5 thousand people”

Lecturer. See. Gülce Kirazlı stated that they aim to raise awareness among the students who come to the stands for three days and their relatives about the measures to protect their hearing health and risk factors that may threaten their hearing health. Kirazlı said, “With the hearing screening test device we have installed in the stand area, we aim to direct the people who we suspect hearing loss to our hospital Ear Nose and Throat Department as the next leg of our project and to establish the diagnosis of hearing loss, if any.”

Kirazlı said, “The more people we inform with our students, the more we can touch their lives if we can solve their hearing problems. Kirazlı said, “Our Rector, who is the main support in the realization of the project. Dr. We would like to thank Ege University units, all our teachers and students, including Necdet Budak. ”

Ege University Hearing Society (EGİT) President Atatürk Health Services MYO Audiometry 2nd Year student Gülseren Demir said, “As EĞİT, we aim to inform the society about hearing health and create awareness for hearing-impaired individuals. We have prepared this event to draw attention to the fact that every person may experience hearing loss one day. We hope that one day everyone will become aware, ”he said.

In the stand opened within the scope of the project; While leaflet and poster distribution and video screening are taking place; In order to raise awareness about hearing health, a hearing screening test was applied to students, academic and administrative staff and patients and their relatives who applied to Ege University.
